How To Make A Wireless Phone Charger

A complete guide on how to make your own recycled plastic wireless phone charger with the Sustainable Design Studio’s Injection Machines and mould.

 

Introduction

TThe recycled Wireless Phone Charger designed by the Sustainable Design Studio is really a showcase of what can be achieved with recycled plastics using our equipment and our methods. We believe with practice and this step-by-step guide (along with all our other resources) you will be able to master the process.

NOTE: This guide assumes you already have one of our Arbour Injection Machines or Injection Mini Machines and have purchased our latest Wireless Phone Charger mould from our online store.

Getting Started

You will need:

  • Sustainable Design Studio Arbour Injection Machine or Injection Mini Machine.

  • Wireless Phone Charger Mould.

  • Small Cross Head Screwdriver.

  • Small craft knife or blade.

For every wireless charger you will need:

Step 1

Once you have injected your plastic into the mould and removed it you should be left with an injected part like this.

Step 2

The first step is to use a pair of snippers or sharp blade to disconnect the two parts from the injection point. You will also need to trim away any excess from the air vents on the opposite side of the part.

Note: It’s best to cut the sprew as close to the part as possible.

Step 3

Once trimmed you should be left with two parts as shown.

Step 4

Now take the flat part and place it on the underside of the other part as shown. Make sure the beveled holes can be seen. (these will allow the screws to be counter-sunk when installed). This step is to ensure everything fits correctly.

Note: Plastic shrinks as it cools, if things don’t fit, it may be down to your plastic choice.

Step 5

Next, you will need the Wireless Charging Circuit.

Step 6

Place the Wireless Charging Coil as shown with the double-sided sticky tape exposed as shown. Ensuring not to trap any wires.

Step 7

Then place the circuit board with the USB C port firmly and as close as possible to the USB C slot. Pressing firmly down to ensure the board is securely stuck to the coil. Neatly fold the cables so they are not trapped by the next steps.

Step 8


Now place the cover on top of the circuit board ensuring everything is firmly in place. Use this moment to check that the USB C cable can be secured in place, if not you may need to either remove material from the case or position the USB C circuit board to be closer to the external of the case.


Step 9


Now by hand screw the 3pcs M2 x 6mm Countersunk Cross Self Tapping Screws into place. Ensuring they are tight and flush with the base plate.


Step 10

This next step is optional, however, we like to add 3pcs of non-slip feet to the base of our chargers.

We place each foot over each of the 3 screws for the best stability.


Step 11

Now everything is complete. Just connect your USB C cable to an adequate power supply and place your phone on top of the charger to begin charging!
